Blog Tour + Giveaway: LINK by Summer Wier

Today I am SO happy to host a stop on the LINK tour for an amazing author and friend, Summer Wier! I have been extremely excited about this book ever since I read it in its early stage, and now it is HERE and you can read it to and see for yourself why I'm so pumped about it!

About LINK:
For seventeen-year-old Kira, there’s no better way to celebrate a birthday than being surrounded by friends and huddled beside a campfire deep in the woods. And with a birthday in the peak of summer, that includes late night swims under the stars.

Or at least, it used to.

Kira’s relaxing contemplation of the universe is interrupted when a piece of it falls, colliding with her and starting a chain of events that could unexpectedly lead to the one thing in her life that's missing—her father.

Tossed into a pieced-together world of carnivals and gypsies, an old-fashioned farmhouse, and the alluring presence of a boy from another planet, Kira discovers she’s been transported to the center of a black hole, and there’s more to the story than science can explain. She’s now linked by starlight to the world inside the darkness. And her star is dying.

If she doesn’t return home before the star’s light disappears and her link breaks, she’ll be trapped forever. But she’s not the only one ensnared, and with time running out, she’ll have to find a way to save a part of her past and a part of her future, or risk losing everything she loves.

Dreamy, fluid, and beautiful, Link pairs the mystery of science fiction with the minor-key melody of a dark fantasy, creating a tale that is as human as it is out of this world.

Available now from Amazon, and other retailers.

You absolutely MUST see this trailer for LINK:

My review:

I LOVED IT like a Smurf loves blue. :)
This book... there are so many things I loved about this book. The writing is beautiful, almost lyrical, but still with that fun, quirky YA feel. The mystery that surrounds outer space is brought to life in the story of Kira and her star. There's action, adventure, love, loss, twists and turns, and all while the reader is absorbed into a new fantastical world somewhere between a fairy tale and science fiction. I can't wait to see where the story takes us next. That's right, this is the first book in a series and sets us up for a promising thrill ride with a beautiful romance.

A FABULOUS Giveaway:

About The Author:
Summer Wier grew up spending Saturdays with a maxed out library card and her nose in a book. But as much as she loved reading, and even writing, both took the back seat when it came to career choices. With her sights set on law school, corporate greatness, and even a hankering to become the first female president, she set off to conquer the world. As life would have it, though, she didn’t attend law school, nor did she become president (although, one day, your vote may be appreciated), finding her strengths, instead, in accounting and business management. After finishing her MBA, she revived her love for reading and began writing with dreams of finishing a book of her own. When Summer isn’t working, reading, or writing, she’s trying to keep up with two energetic girls and her husband, and dreaming of the mountains of Montana.
LINK is her debut young adult sci-fi novel, the first in THE SHADOW OF LIGHT trilogy.

Review: FINDING HER WAY BACK by Heather Van Fleet

I'm on a mission to catch up on ALLLLLL the things that I've let slide for the past several months. There have been so many cool things happening behind the scenes in Brockville. Bookish things. Personal things. Things, things, things. Anyhow, time has been slipping away at an alarming rate. Like, I can't even believe it's been two months since Christmas. Which is around the time I first read Heather Van Fleet's new release. That's right. Because I'm the worst kind of friend, it has taken me over two months to write this review.

But before I tell you all about FINDING HER WAY BACK, I have a small announcement to make. Because I piled too much on my plate last year, and don't want to repeat the process this year, I've decided to dial it back a little. One of the areas I'm cutting down on is blogging. You might have noticed less posts here, on this blog, but the biggest difference is I'll be leaving The Midnight Society. It was a very hard decision, since I love that blog SO much. But this allows for someone else to come in who can post more awesome stuff more often.

So, there was a little of this:

But I'm okay now. And if you haven't checked out this AWESOME horror lit blog, you need to. You need to. YOU NEED TOOOOOO.

Alrighty. Let's get to this review, shall we?

About FHB:
Meet Callie, a chubby-sexy nineteen-year-old girl who fears high heels, commitments, and has a love/hate relationship with her running shoes. Nine months of college down the drain and all she has to show for it is her freshman thirty.

But alas, life has other crap plans for her--one that includes a strict regiment of "do this and do that" from her she-devil sister, all while trying to avoid the unavoidable. The unavoidable being Ky: the ex-best friend-turned-sex god who lives across the street.

Meet Ky; a nineteen-year-old wanna be country music singer and a boy-turned-man who still wears a proverbial skateboard around his neck from wasted high school days. When Callie returns home, he realizes that she's exactly the muse he's been missing all this time.

Now, if only she can stop running long enough to find out where their love could lead. FINDING HER WAY BACK is a new adult novel about finding love while learning how to love yourself. For all the chubby-sexy girls who tend to feel invisible, this one's for you!

My reveiw:

Finding Her Way Back was full of wonderful, you guys. I mean, I pretty much devoured it like it was a chocolate cupcake with double frosting. First, you have a spunky, authentic heroine, who makes mistakes, and has past regrets. Then you have a realistic blue-collar hero, who is sweet and understanding and so, so swoon worthy. Add a strong and diverse supporting cast, and you have a winner winner tear-jerker dinner-- er, story.

When I say this story is a tear jerker, I ain't lyin'. From the halfway point to the end, every other page I was like this:

And this:

There are some tough scenes in this one, but they are written with grace and class. The character's reactions are authentic. Finding Her Way Back will definitely have your feels twisted up like a pretzel. Which is just how I like mine after a reading a good book.

FIVE TEAR-JERKING STARS

About the author:
Midwestern native Heather Van Fleet lives in a small town on the Iowa/Illinois border. She’s a wife to her hubby—and high school sweet heart, Chris—as well as a mom to her three little girls Kelsey, Emma, and Bella. When she’s not obsessing over her fictional book characters, cooking dinner, or running around chasing her crazy kiddos, you can usually find her with her head stuck in her Kindle, sucking down White Chocolate Mochas like they're water.

Guest Post: SACHAEL DREAMS by Melody Winter

Today I have the WONDERFUL Melody Winter here to talk about her new release! Check out this AMAZING trailer:

About Sachael Dreams:
Twenty-two-year-old Estelle Bailey has had enough of busy city-life and her hot-tempered ex. She escapes to the seclusion and peace of her family’s clifftop home in Ravenscar, where the soothing solitude whispers to her soul as strongly as the sea itself does. But her newfound contentment is interrupted when a mysterious man—a Sachael, master of seduction—joins her midnight swim unexpectedly.
Estelle struggles against his charm and the overpowering attraction she feels for him. He offers her a life she never could have imagined, a life beneath the waves . . . but at what cost? Before she can decide, she’s captured, ensnared by the Sect, a secret enemy of the Sachaels, becoming a pawn in a war she knew nothing about.
Now, she’s left with a new choice—escape the clutches of the Sect and flee into the ocean, or side with her alluring, intimidating captor and destroy the Sachaels forever. Can she turn her back on the man she might love, or will the secret of her heritage change everything?
Set against a picturesque backdrop, Sachael Dreams is the first in a new series, exploring themes of romance, love, and identity, and the struggle that happens when all three collide.

SPECIAL TREAT! Melody is here to share some insider details on Ravenscar, where Sachael Dreams is set!

The setting of SACHAEL DREAMS – Ravenscar.
I wanted to give you a behind the scenes look at Ravenscar seeing as it features strongly in SACHAEL DREAMS. So many people ask me, "Why Ravenscar?" so I decided to try and answer as best I could.
Firstly--the natural and rugged beauty of the coastline.

When I first started writing the first book in the series, Sachael Dreams, I set the story in the Orkneys, off the north coast of Scotland. But something didn't feel right--it was too far away and I wanted somewhere I could visit and soak up the atmosphere. And then I remembered a place that I'd heard about in a conversation several years ago, 'the town that never was', Ravenscar. Internet searches soon revealed the brilliant suitability of such a place for my novel. It is steeped in mystery, broken dreams and strange bets amongst the rich. Peak House, now known at Raven Hall Hotel, (Yes you can stay there.) is rumoured to have been a hospital for the insane at one point, even treating King George for his madness. This is not classified as fact, neither is the story that Peak House transferred ownership in a bet over two racing woodlice! But it was only when I visited Ravenscar, renting a converted barn and staying for a week, that I began to understand the true beauty and mystery that it had to offer.
The Mermaids Tables, at the foot of Ravenscar (if you fancy near enough abseiling down to the bottom) were a known fact, but to actually see the shear size of them, and wonder at their formation was completely unforgettable. The fierce incoming tide was quite spectacular as well, as you can see--look just beyond the large boulders and see the size of those waves!

Both Peak House, and the Mermaid Tables feature in Sachael Dreams. Both are significant in their own memorable way.
I'm lucky enough to live only an hour's drive away. I have visited often over the past few years, and stayed several times for extended vacations with two of my close friends. The building I visualise as Estelle's home is actually an old barn which you can see from the top of Ravenscar. (pictured toward the left of this photo)

The best thing about visiting Ravenscar is that within minutes of walking away from the road, you find yourself in a completely different world. You're away from cars, buildings, and people, and as you wander along the tracks that Estelle walks along, it's so easy to immerse yourself in her head, her world, her life. Ravenscar has a magical quality to it. The silence seeps into you, the surroundings calm you, and the beauty of living in such a desolate place overwhelms you.

I have yet to see Ravenscar shrouded in mist, or a sea fret. I imagine it takes on a creepy atmosphere, a frightening place to be in such a time, but again--it all adds to the mystery that is, and will remain, Ravenscar.

Here it is! The cover for MACHINE HEAD!

I love cover reveals. I mean you guys know that because they make up the majority of content here on the blog. But I especially love when I get to share my covers for the first time! I've been sitting on this little beauty for a month and it's been killing me softly.

MACHINE HEAD is what I'm calling an 'interactive novel'. It's a fancy phrase for a choose-your-own-adventure book. But the reason I didn't go with that is because Machine Head isn't quite like the ones we read as kids. In those, the reader usually plays the part of the main character as they read, choosing how that character reacts. In my story, the reader is outside the story, looking on, learning about the characters and world, but also running the show and deciding the outcome. Make sense? It's complicated, I know, but really fun too.

Alrighty then, are you ready?! Here is my pretty new cover-baby...

Where young rule and elders are hunted to extinction... and you decide who's guilty.

MACHINE HEAD
An Interactive Novel

Available April 10, 2015

Adults have poisoned the world with their selfishness, jealousy, and deceit. Now it’s up to the young to heal it. First order: eliminate every elder. Second: discover the secret to never growing up. Third: procreate.

Ten Sixty-Four is on trial for treason. The crimes he committed are unforgivable: hiding elders who should be long dead, consorting with illegal untrained young, and purposely botching kill missions. He’s come a long way from the cold, unfeeling, Sleepwalker he began as. He’s still four years from the death age, which means the Hex can’t afford to kill him. If found guilty, he’ll be given to the Machine for reprogramming. But none of that matters because he’s done what no other Sleepwalker has dared to. He’s found love. And he knows something they don’t. Falling in love is the secret to achieving the third order.

Brille has a secret of her own: the elders aren’t extinct. They’re not even endangered. But what the rest of the world doesn’t know can’t hurt them. At least, not anymore than they’re already hurting themselves. There is no more laughter. No more crying. No feelings of any kind. Only in the secret hiding places where the untrained dwell with elders, can emotion be found. Then it’s anger, rage, and hostility. When she finds herself a target of the Sleepwalkers, she realizes she’s not the only one with secrets. Ten Sixty-Four feels. He might even be capable of love. The idea leaves Brille with an emotion she never thought she’d have: hope.

The Hex has convened. A trial will commence. You, a member of the jury, must decide Ten Sixty-Four’s fate, and with it, the future of humanity.

She's an anomaly: a hybrid of human and Dead, created by her mother's genetic immunity. Like her parents, she's fierce and strong. When Kaegan Langford stumbles into the colony with an injured friend draped across his shoulders, her world is turned upside down. Intrigued and affected by her, he asks her to come to Empalme, Mexico with him to fight in the war between Deads and humans. It'll be a long, treacherous journey to the coast, but she's had all she can take in the colony.

Battles with Deads, betrayal, injury, kidnappings, and a criminal-run train ride stand between them and the war. But in the end, it's not just the war with the Deads that could be the death of them.
